NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Photography

Aims of the Course

These are to:

• Enable learners to gain knowledge and understanding of the different roles and employment opportunities available within the photo imaging industry
• Understanding health and safety in different environments
• Provide basic understanding of the legislation relevant to photographic practice, including copyright, intellectual property and photographers rights
• Be aware of legal and ethical considerations
• Develop the knowledge, understanding and essential skills employers look for in employees
• Provide understanding of photographic techniques and the photo imaging sector
• Support learners to progress into employment in creative industries including photography, art and design, craft, animation and moving image production

Structure

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Photography, learners are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units and 5 optional units. Mandatory Units are:

• Explore photographic equipment, techniques, materials and resources
• Develop and adapt photographic ideas
• Introduction to the photo imaging industry

Learners must also choose at least 5 units from the following optional units:

• Studio photography
• Location photography
• Commercial photography
• Documentary photography
• Experimental and alternative process photography
• Presenting a portfolio of photographic images

How the Course is Delivered?

This course is delivered via a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) which provides access to case studies, learning materials and activities, presentations and web links. Online tutor support and guidance is provided throughout the course, where learners can interact with the tutors, get feedback on their progress and submit their work electronically. This helps you to build the relevant skills progressively, as you receive feedback and support from your tutor during this time.

Face to face interactions will be conducted through video sessions.

Assessment

A mix of assessments will be used – portfolio of evidence, presentations.

Certification

After successful completion students will achieve Level 2 Diploma in Photography awarded by NCFE.

• NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Photography
• NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Art and Design

Entry Requirements

This qualification is suitable for learners aged pre-16 and above. This qualification is designed for a wide range of learners who wish to gain an understanding of photographic techniques and the photo imaging sector. There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification, however learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 1 qualification in a similar or related area.
