Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (L3IFDHES)

The NCC Education Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (L3IFDHES) is an Ofqual regulated qualification. It is a one-year pre-university qualification developed by UK academics to help you progress successfully to undergraduate study. 

This pre-university bridging qualification is designed to provide an entry route to UK University courses.

The Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (L3IFDHES) is a one-year pre-university qualification that prepares students with the essential English language skills, mathematics, research, and study skills to progress to an English-based law, finance, accounting, economics, business, or engineering and chosen specialisms to provide direct entry into an undergraduate (First Year) degree at an internationally recognised university.

Route 2 Medical Sciences (UCLAN)

BSc (Hons) Medical Sciences (2-year accelerated programme)

6-Year MBBS Medicine and Surgery (with Foundation Year)

  • BSc (Hons) Medical Sciences is an accelerated two-year degree programme. Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis only. 
  • The MBBS is a 6-Year programme. Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis only. UCLan have confirmed that the ‘Year 0’ is in not a repetition of the L3IFDHES programme and students would not be eligible to apply to the 6-Year MBBS with their high school diploma only.

 For the BSc (Hons) Medical Sciences, students must follow Group 2 of the new L3IFDHES specification only and achieve an overall score of 60% Merit, as well as 60% Merit in each unit (both core and elective). Electives must be in Biology, Chemistry and one of the following: Physics for University Study, Further Mathematics for University Study, Introduction to Programming with Python or Introduction to Computer Science & Digital World (both required in the case of the latter 10-credit units). IELTS are 6.0 with no component lower than 5.5.

For 6-Year MBBS, students must follow Group 2 of the new L3IFDHES specification only and achieve an overall score of 70% Distinction, as well as 70% Distinction in each unit (both core and elective). Electives must be in Biology, Chemistry and one of the following: Physics for University Study, Further Mathematics for University Study, Introduction to Programming with Python or Introduction to Computer Science & Digital World (both required in the case of the latter 10-credit units). IELTS: 6.5 with no component lower than 6.0.

To complete the qualification a student must study and pass units to the total of 120 credits* based on IELTS score and desired career pathway:

(A) 4 core + 2 elective

(B) 3 core + 3 electives

(C) 4 core + 1 electives + 2 electives

(D) 3 core + 2 electives + 2 electives

Core Units for Students with a score of 4.5≤ IELTS (or equivalent) <5.5

(*) These Core Units equate to 80 Units – Students need to choose additional Electives to make up another 40 Units

Core Units for Students with IELTS (or equivalent) score of ≥ 5.5

  • Maths for University Study
  • Research and Study Skills for University Study
(*) These Core Units equate to 60 Units – Students need to choose additional Electives to make up another 60 Units

Students must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Completed their GCSE/IGCSE ‘O’ Levels or an equivalent* qualification in their own country and passed 5 subjects with minimum grades of ‘C’, ‘4’ or equivalent* in each. These should include Mathematics and English.
  • Have a valid score of 4.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination or equivalent for students whose first language is not English. Alternatively, students can take the free NCC Education Standard English Placement Test which is administered by our Accredited Partner Centres.
* Centres need to provide evidence to justify any equivalency decision (both qualification equivalency and grade equivalency) they make pertaining to any enrolments via non-GCSE or non-standard routes.

Students that complete the NCC Education Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (L3IFDHES) can:

  • Apply to Year 1 of a university degree programme at over 100 universities, branch campuses, business schools and professional bodies in 20+ countries.For further details see the What Next?   • Or enrol onto the NCC Education Level 4 Diploma in Computing (L4DC), Level 4 Diploma in Computing (with Business Management) (L4DB BM) or Level 4 Diploma in Business (L4DB), equivalent to Year 1 of a UK bachelor’s degree.

Assessments for all units will be offered in a minimum of four assessment cycles throughout the year. The units are assessed by either written examination or assignment.
