Aims of the course

These are to:

• Equip learners with knowledge of safeguarding practices and procedures.
• Understand the legislation, frameworks and policies that guide safeguarding and Prevent.
• Recognise different types of abuse and neglect, and how to report concerns.
• Understand roles and responsibilities of those involved in safeguarding.
• Learn about the Prevent strategy and how to identify signs of radicalisation.
• Develop an awareness of the impact of safeguarding failures and how to improve outcomes.

Objectives of the course

The objectives of these qualifications are to:

• • • • To provide an understanding of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals.

      • To raise awareness of types of abuse, signs, and indicators.

      • To understand the responsibilities of practitioners in safeguarding and protection.

      • To introduce the Prevent duty and its role in countering radicalisation.

      • To enable learners to understand how to respond to safeguarding concerns appropriately.

      • To help learners explore legislation, policies and procedures related to safeguarding and Prevent.

Structure

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent, learners are required to successfully complete the unit assessments for the 3 mandatory units.

The units are:

• • • Unit 1 – Understanding the Prevent duty

    • Unit 2 – Understanding safeguarding

    • Unit 3 – Understanding online safety.

How the course is delivered

This Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent is delivered via blended learning. Learners gain access to a dedicated Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), which includes case studies, interactive resources, presentations, and web links.
Online tutor support is available throughout the course to provide feedback, guidance, and progress checks. Face-to-face sessions may be offered via video conferencing or within classroom settings to enhance engagement and understanding.

Assessment

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods such as written assignments, reflective journals, and scenario-based tasks. Learners are encouraged to apply theoretical knowledge to practical safeguarding situations.

Certification

Entry requirements

This qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 or above. Applicants should possess a reasonable level of English, literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills to complete the course successfully.
