Aims of the course

These are to:

• Equip learners with knowledge of adult social care provisions and the types of support services available.
• Understand legislation, frameworks, and policies relevant to adult social care.
• Develop awareness of the roles and responsibilities of adult social care practitioners.
• Understand how to implement care values such as dignity, respect, and person-centred support.
• Gain insight into effective communication within adult care environments.
• Understand the importance of health, well-being, and safeguarding adults in care.
• Explore the needs of individuals and how to promote independence and rights.

Objectives of the course

The objectives of these qualifications are to:

• To develop a foundational understanding of adult social care principles.

• To introduce the types of support provided within adult care settings.

• To enable learners to understand roles and responsibilities in adult social care.

• To familiarise learners with safeguarding practices and risk management.

• To promote the values and standards of dignity, respect, and equality in care.

• To prepare learners to respond effectively to the needs and preferences of individuals.

Structure

 To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Adult Social Care, learners are required to successfully complete the assessments for the following 3 mandatory units:

The units are:

• • • Unit 1 – Principles of communication in adult social care settings

    • Unit 2 – Understanding the role of the social care worker

    • Unit 3 – Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care.

How the course is delivered

This Level 2 Certificate in Adult Social Care is delivered via blended learning. Learners have full access to an online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) that provides a range of resources, including learning materials, case studies, presentations, interactive activities, and web links.
Tutors provide continuous support throughout the course via the VLE, with feedback on assignments, regular communication, and optional face-to-face video sessions or classroom sessions for interactive learning.

Assessment

All units will be internally assessed using a variety of methods, including written assignments, case studies, reflective statements, and portfolio-based evidence.

• Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Health and Social Care

Certification

After successful completion, learners will be awarded the OFQUAL recognised qualification – NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Adult Social Care.

Entry requirements

• This qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 or above. Applicants should have a good level of English, literacy, numeracy and ICT skills to support their learning and assignment completion.
