What you will learn
Below is an outline of the course material you will study:
Unit 1: Positive and negative numbers
In the opening unit, you’ll take a look at positive and negative numbers. You’ll become familiar with contexts in which you might encounter both, such as temperature charts and banking accounts.
Unit 2: Calculations
Moving on, you’ll learn some calculations it’s helpful to be familiar with, along with how to choose the right calculation to match the problem.
Unit 3: Ratio
In unit three, you’ll look at solving problems using ratio, which can be very useful for working out recipes and correctly scaled models.
Unit 4: Fractions, decimals, and percentages
In the fourth unit, you’ll work out how to convert fractions and decimals, decimals to fractions, percentages to decimals, and decimals to percentages.
Unit 5: Use simple formulae
Formulae are a type of equation that demonstrate the relationship between numbers using letters. In unit five, you’ll study formulae applicable to real-life circumstances, such as miles travelled according to a specific speed and duration.
Unit 6: Recognise and use 2D and 3D objects
Next, you’ll look at geometric diagrams including nets and 2D and 3D shapes. You’ll learn which nets correspond to various shapes, and the edges, vertices, and faces different shapes have.
Unit 7: Area, perimeter, and volume
In unit seven, you’ll explore area, perimeter and volume, and how to calculate them.
Unit 8: Use metric and imperial measures
This unit will teach you how to convert imperial to metric measurements, for length, weight and distance.
Unit 9: Collect and represent data
In the ninth unit, you’ll examine how data can be collected, interpreted, and displayed clearly
Unit 10: Use and interpret statistical measures
In this unit we will look at statistical measures such as mean, median, mode and range, along with the interpretation of graphs and charts.
Course Outcome
At the end of this course, successful learners will be awarded a formal certificate of achievement from NCFE. The training courses have been designed specifically to meet the needs of learners who prefer to study from home.
