This unit will help you with understanding some of the terminology used in relation to questions that you may be asked. You’ll learn how to calculate sums with using basic addition and subtraction techniques. Next, you’ll learn how to solve problems using multiplication with an easy-to-follow table and explanation to assist you. Finally, you’ll consider ‘dividend’ and ‘divisor’ when dividing numbers, and practise sums with the methods provided.
Common Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
During this unit you’ll look at common fractions, decimals and percentages, being able to convert fractions to decimals, decimals to fractions, percentages to decimals, and decimals to percentages. Finally, you’ll learn how to this skill will be useful in everyday life and the way it may benefit you.
Add and Subtract Decimals up to two Decimal Places
Next, you’ll look at adding and subtracting up to two decimal places. Similar to adding whole numbers, you’ll revise the skill you have learnt in previous units and adopt a new rule for decimal numbers. You’ll consider techniques such as moving the decimal point, and adding using a table structure.
Solve Simple Problems involving Ratio
Have you ever followed a recipe? If so, this would have been calculated using ratio. In this unit, you’ll look at solving simple problems using ratio, how they are written, and how to work them out based on relatable situations that would arise in your everyday life.
Using Simple Formulae
During this unit you may start to incorporate occasional letters into your learning, this will help you represent a relationship between a number and an everyday situation. You’ll learn how to use formulae with scenarios such as cooking a Sunday roast, or working out the cost of an item, and see how this has importance in your daily life.
Solve Problems with Common Measures
This unit will increase your problem-solving skills considering common measures such as time, money, length, weight, capacity and temperature. This will include calculating how much your shopping bill will add up to, units of measurement for weight, and much more.
Convert units of Measure
Following on, you will look at how to convert units of measure, considering example of quick conversion for; distance and length, weight, capacity and time. By the end of this unit, you’ll feel more confident with converting units of measure.
Work out Area and Perimeter
In this unit you’ll look at areas and perimeter in relation to things that may happen in your everyday life such as, measuring a carpet for a room. You’ll reflect on examples provided to encourage you to be able to calculate it confidently in relation to situations in your own life.
Geometric Diagrams, Models and Shapes
This unit focuses on geometric diagrams, taking you through nets, angles and lines of symmetry. You’ll look at a variety of shapes such as the cube, pyramid, and triangular prism to uncover the nets; also considering angles such as 360⁰, 180⁰ and 90⁰.
Collecting information from tables, diagrams, charts and graphs
In this unit we will look at how to extract and interpret information from lists, tables, diagrams, charts and graphs. You’ll learn the different ways in which you can display data including pie charts, line graphs, and bar charts, as well as an array or others too.
Collecting and recording discrete data
During this unit you’ll look at ways in which data can be collected, such as lists and tally charts. Furthermore, you’ll learn how to display the data once the data has been collected, in a way that is clear and easy to interpret.
Find Mean and Range
Mean and range will be learnt in this unit, as well as how they are used as statistical measures and how they can be compared to sets of data.
Use data to assess the likelihood of an outcome
Finally, you’ll look at using data to assess the likelihood of an outcome, in other words ‘probability’. During this unit, you’ll learn that probabilities can be described using words, using terms like ‘certain’ and ‘unlikely’ to determine an outcome. You’ll also consider how percentages as a measure, using 0% to 100%.
